I lived in Beijing for eight years. Life happened mostly outside — on the streets, in small neighborhood shops, public parks, local restaurants, and shared spaces between apartment buildings. People spent time together in the evenings, played cards, exercised, talked to neighbors, and brought everyday life into the open.
At the same time, the city was changing rapidly. Old neighborhoods disappeared, new buildings appeared constantly, and the pace of development often felt overwhelming. But even within that transformation, there was still a strong sense of community and closeness in everyday life.
During those years, I worked as a designer and teacher, studied traditional Chinese painting, and explored the city through photography. These images are fragments of daily life and personal memory from a city that never stopped changing.

Time standing still - one day trip to a small village near Beijing.
I lived in China for six years and could always find something unexpected and fascinating in everyday life. Even ordinary moments often carried a sense of curiosity or quiet observation.
These photographs were taken in Qingdao. The images are fragments of those moments and impressions gathered while moving through the city with a camera.

While many cities in China were rapidly changing, places like Pingyao still carried traces of older rhythms, architecture, and traditions. The photographs focus on small moments within this historical environment — fragments of everyday life surrounded by cultural heritage.

A short trip to Changsha — a city often associated with its famous “stinky tofu,” night markets, and busy street life. Like many cities in China, everyday life unfolded outside: people gathering around food stalls, crowded streets filled with smoke, noise, and movement late into the evening.
These photographs were taken in Yunnan and Shangri-La, a region where Tibetan culture, religion, and everyday life remain strongly present. Prayer flags, monasteries, mountain landscapes, quiet streets, and happy people created a very different atmosphere from the large cities I had become used to in China.

Amid the intensity of mass tourism and rapid movement, there were still quiet moments and small observations — people resting, waiting, eating together. The photographs focus on these fragments of everyday life during one of the busiest travel periods in China.
